Here are a few things that security guards review during the refresher.

What does the IRR of RA 11917 (The Private Security Services Industry Act) say about the use of firearms for security guards or PSP (Private Security Personnel ) in the Philippines?

Section 140. Use of Firearms. The use of firearms by PSP (Private Security Personnel ) shall always conform to the standards of Force Continuum.

Section 255. Application of the Force Continuum. The IRR states that while situations will vary based on the persons and motives involved, security personnel shall apply these tactics, if and when necessary, in order to defend the properties and persons they ought to protect.   

1.     Level 1: Alert Presence

2.     Level 2: Verbal Communication

3.     Level 3: Physical Restraints

4.     Level 4: Use of Chemical Agents

5.     Level 5: Temporary Incapacitation

6.     Level 6: Use of Force. This is the phase wherein the use of firearms are deemed necessary.  Firearms shall be used only when there is imminent danger and in self defense or defense of strangers.
